Oriori reimagines the ancient craft of origami in the context of contemporary textile design through jacquard weaving. By embedding form-transformable mechanisms directly in the interlacement of warp and weft, form and material are created simultaneously. The form-giving mechanics enable the transformation of rectangular two-dimensional woven textiles into three-dimensional objects.

Each textile object can additionally be dynamically transformed, hereby alternating between different visual, tactile and form-related appearances. The work provides a method to generate fully woven textile objects while utilizing color, pattern, and texture as activating elements, offering a playful and stimulating experience in a digital world while making the spectator aware of textile craftsmanship.

Emilie Palle Holm (born 1994) holds an MA in Textiles from the Swedish School of Textiles. She has won numerous awards, including the coveted Arts Threads (Knits/Weave) in 2023 arranged in collaboration with the fashion brand Gucci, and the Ministry of Culture Award at the European Prize for Applied Arts 2024 in Belgium.
