For the past decade Rúrí (born 1951) has collected scales from different times and of different shapes and origins.

“Rúrí arranges some of the scales with other measuring instruments such as clocks. Questioning the concept of time is a recurring motif in her oeuvre. She uses various types of measuring devices such as traditional alarm clocks, globes, maps and books, all elements which have one thing in common: They can all be interpreted as attempts to localize the human being in his/her cosmic environment. By using the strong symbolism of the scale Rúrí also questions the inconsistent relationships between e.g. economy and water resources, war and peace.” (Christian Schoen; Fragile Systems, Nordatlantens Brygge, Copenhagen, 2016).

Since 1974 Rúrí’s work have been exhibited widely in Europe, Asia and North America. She represented Iceland at the Venice Biennale in 2003, with the installation Archive – Endangered Waters.
