Friðgeir Helgason
Mood
Akureyri Art Museum, Ketilhús
September 9ᵗʰ - November 12ᵗʰ
Friðgeir Helgason (born 1966) moved from Iceland to the USA at a young age. He studied cinematography at Los Angeles City College in Hollywood, and that is where photography first captured his mind. He has held numerous exhibitions both in the USA and in Iceland.
“The photographs in this exhibition are shot in 2008-2013, on road trips in Iceland and Louisiana; the two areas most precious to me. The photos are all shot on Kodak Film and I printed them with an enlarger – the old-fashioned way. Nothing compares to driving aimlessly on the highway with the good old Pentax and a bunch of films in the trunk; stop and grab a bite to eat, meet the locals; take in the ambience and shoot photos when the opportunity arises. The aim of this exhibition is to grasp that mood.”
