Zzyzx is an exhibition based on the history and surroundings of the Zzyzx-area in the Mojave Desert in California. Its backbone is a new photo-collage series, exhibited along with works relating to the subject matter – directly or indirectly.
Heimir Björgúlfsson was born in Reykjavik in 1975. He finished a BA degree in visual arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 2001 and a Master’s degree at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam 2003. He has held solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in numerous places in Europe and USA. Björgúlfsson was nominated for both the Volkskrant Beeldende Kunst Prijs in the Netherlands, as well as the Carnegie Art Award in Sweden 2011. For the past few years he has lived and worked in Los Angeles, USA.
