Architecture & Akureyri
Akureyri Art Museum, Ketilhús
May 21ˢᵗ - August 28ᵗʰ
As the title suggests the subject of the exhibition Architecture and Akureyri is architecture in Akureyri. In the routine of our daily lives we often forget that the objects and structures of the manmade environment we live in, all started as an idea in some one’s mind. Creations that appear to us as fully formed all sprouted originally from one small idea.
The buildings that were chosen for the exhibition are all designed by contemporary architects and have either won competitions or received special recognitions. Guests get an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the ideas and inspirations behind the buildings, which all have public access.
Historical approach is the exhibition’s second angle, through special cooperation with Akureyri Museum and Akureyri Structural department. Photographs of buildings from the past are exhibited as well as municipal plans from a historical perspective.
Guests at Architecture and Akureyri can participate in the exhibition by taking photos of a building which they would like to be exhibited. The photos should be sent to the email address listak@listak.is with the subject Arkitektur along with information on the location, street name and number as well as the name of the photographer. Photos that are sent in will be printed and included in the exhibition with a reference to the location of the photographed building. Thereby one part of the exhibition will change through the participation of guests.
Curators: Helga Björg Jónasardóttir and Haraldur Ingi Haraldsson.
Special thanks to Akureyri Museum.
