Ásdís Sif Gunnarsdóttir (born 1976) has garnered attention for her video installations, photography and art performances. It is therefore no coincidence that her new artworks will be exhibited in Akureyri Art Museum at the same time as the works of the pioneer Joan Jonas. As with Jonas’ art, there is a strong feminist undertone in the works of Ásdís Sif, often presented in a poetic and emotional way. A woman’s life stories, experiences and journeys are in the foreground.
Ásdís holds a BFA degree from the School of Visual Arts in New York, graduating in 2000, and a Master’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, graduating in 2004. She has staged art performances and exhibited video installations in Iceland and abroad, as well as participated in many group exhibitions and created online video art.
