NORTH ICELANDIC ARTISTS

GROUP EXHIBITION
NORTH ICELANDIC ARTISTS
05.06.2025 – 14.09.2025
Gallery 08

The largest community of artists outside Reykjavík exists in Eyjafjörður. Akureyri has long been the cultural hub of the area and around the turn of the 20th century visual art gained more relevance there, when an art school and an art museum were founded. Both these institutions have been influential in Akureyri’s art life.

Every other year since 2015 a group exhibition with works by North Icelandic artists has been set up at the Akureyri Art Museum.

Participants apply to a call from Akueyri Art Museum and a special jury selects the works that will be exhibited. A catalogue will be published and guided tours offered regularly with the participating artists. The exhibition is meant to give an insight into the diverse flora of visual arts tied to North Iceland and bring attention and inspire discussion on the status of artists and visual arts in North Iceland.
